Goodwin Liu is a professor of law at UC Berkeley and a member of the California State Board of Education. He was born in Augusta, Georgia, and grew up in Sacramento, California. Liu attended Stanford University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in 1996 and a law degree in 1999. After graduating from law school, Liu clerked for Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg of the United States Supreme Court. He then worked as a litigation associate at the law firm of Covington & Burling in Washington, D.C. Liu returned to Stanford in 2002, where he served as an assistant professor of law before moving to UC Berkeley in 2006.
